Gayle Goldin represents the East Side/Fox Point neighborhood of Providence. As a newly elected senator, Gayle championed the passage of Temporary Caregiver Insurance, making Rhode Island the third state in the country to create paid family leave and the first to do so with job protection. In 2019, Gayle was instrumental in the passage of Rhode Island’s Reproductive Privacy Act, ensuring that abortion remain safe and legal in our state even if the Supreme Court overturns or erodes the protections of Roe v. Wade.
She continues to focus on common-sense legislation to grow our middle class, such as making child care more affordable, expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, raising the minimum wage, improving our health care system, protecting civil rights, and increasing funding for affordable housing and our public schools. Gayle is also a long-time advocate for children in foster care.
Gayle currently serves as the Deputy Majority Whip of the Senate, as Vice Chair of Senate Health & Human Services and is a member of the Senate Labor Committee. She is a former co-chair of the RI Democratic Party Women’s Caucus.
